Bitesize Prediction: St. Albans vs Port Melbourne Sharks – 07/07/23

Market: Port Melbourne Sharks

Odds: 8/15 @

Hoping to clinch back-to-back NPL Victoria victories this weekend, Port Melbourne will travel to a struggling St. Albans on Friday morning.

Starting with the hosts, at the heart of a relegation scrap last season and only just about clinging to their NPL Victoria status, St. Albans are once again looking over their shoulder at a looming bottom-two scrap. While the Dinamos might have claimed a much-needed 3-0 victory against Hume City last month, Kruni Razov’s men have come crashing back down to earth in a worrying fashion. Last seen putting in another downbeat performance as they slumped to a 2-0 loss at home against Bentleigh, the Victoria-based outfit have lost each of their last three straight NPL Victoria showdowns by an aggregate score of 8-0. With that run highlighted by a routine 4-0 drumming at the hands of South Melbourne on June 20th, St. Albans should be bracing themselves for another stern challenge here. Likewise, it should also be noted, along with their recent three-match losing rut, Razov’s side have also lost six of their previous seven appearances a run that stems all the way back to May 12th.

As for the visitors, making an immediate return to winning ways over the weekend as they claimed a rugged 1-0 victory at home against Heidelberg, Port Melbourne are enjoying an eye-catching run of form. Mustering seven points from their last three NPL Victoria appearances, Adam Piddick’s side are cruising their way towards a play-off ticket in 2023. Losing just one of their last six showdowns a run that stems back to May 19th the Sharks have also impressed with their recent performances at the back. Along with keeping a clean sheet in each of their last three NPL Victoria outings, it should also be highlighted that Port Melbourne have not picked the ball out of their own net in almost 300 minutes of action. Smelling the chance to make another statement here, Piddick’s men should be excited by a rampant record against Thursday’s hosts. In fact, the Sharks have taken 13 points from just their last five meetings against the relegation scrappers.
