´English sport is amusing´ – Eddie Jones mocks critics of Gareth Southgate after Three Lions backlas

Eddie Jones finds it laughable to hear Gareth Southgate coming in for heavy criticism after the England football team s poor Nations League results.

England rugby union head coach Jones says those rushing to judge Southgate s aptitude as boss of the Three Lions are showing they have short memories.

Southgate led England to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and to the Euro 2020 final, but two defeats to Hungary either side of draws with Germany and Italy have led to a backlash.

There has been a clamour among some impatient supporters for Southgate to be replaced before the World Cup gets under way in November.

Jones said he 100 per cent understood the position in which Southgate finds himself, having faced flak himself over England s rugby results.

The Croatia international arrived to Anfield as a part of the three-man contingent from Southampton in 2014, together with midfielder Adam Lallana, and striker Rickie Lambert who has retired since. Lovren has been in and out of the team under Jurgen Klopp, but he has fallen down the pecking order more notably in the last two seasons, eventually becoming fourth-choice centre-back behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. This season he has managed to book no more than 15 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League cha…

According to a number of sources, Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer has left Germany and is on his way to Manchester, where he should undergo a medical before signing for United on loan for the rest of the season. The two clubs have already reached an agreement, after the player himself accepted the terms proposed by the 20-time English champions.

Chelsea were apparently interested as well, having given up on Brighton s Moises Caicedo and not reached an agreement with Benfica yet for Enzo Fernandez, but Sabitzer chose Old Trafford as his destination.

The window closes this evening (Tuesday), and United are forced to act fast in the light of the injury suffered by Christian Eriksen, set to keep the Denmark international out of action until the end of April, and po…

Arteta´s ´conscience is calm´ after leaving Ozil out of Premier League squad

Mikel Arteta says his conscience is calm  after leaving Mesut Ozil out of his Premier League squad and insists the decision was made solely for football reasons.

The former Germany international was not included in the 25-man group for the 2020-21 season when it was submitted on Tuesday after also being left out of the Gunners  Europa League squad earlier in October.

Ozil, who has not played for the club since a match against West Ham on March 7, expressed his disappointment in the decision on Wednesday, posting on social media: I pledged my loyalty and allegiance to the club that I love, Arsenal, and it saddens me that this has not been reciprocated.

Ozil s influence has waned since providing 19 assists and creating 28 big chances in 35 Premier League …

As a result, Danilo D Ambrosio and Leandro Paredes, both of whom came on as substitutes for their respective teams, were both sent off after the final whistle.

The game

The contest started as a relatively balanced one, with both teams arranged in the 3-5-2 formation. The battle in the congested midfield area was fierce from the first whistle, and both teams sought to engage their strikers, Romelu Lukaku and Dusan Vlahovic, with relatively frequent long passes. But it was Inter who thre…
